Therefore, we’ve gathered in this article what we believe are the best autumn. We are sure there are many more deserving of this title, but that… will be for a future article.

1. Trilho da Preguiça – Gerês
The name leaves no room for doubt! The Trilho da Preguiça(Laziness trail literally translated), in the heart of Gerês National Parkis a relaxing walk, perfect for enjoying the silence of nature in autumnThis route, approximately 5 km long, takes you to witness the transition from the vibrant green of the trees to the typical golds and reds of this season. Furthermore, the sound of flowing water and the fresh air of Gerês make this hike a true balm for the soul
2. Mata da Albergaria – Gerês
Another treasure of Gerês is Mata da Albergaria, one of the oldest and most beautiful forests in Portugal. This hike is considered a classic of autumn, almost as famous as Rota das Faias, in Serra da Estrela. Meaning that autumnthis forest transforms into a true natural painting, with fallen leaves creating carpets of colors ranging from brown to orange and yellow. This trail is perfect for those who want to take a deep breath and feel the purity of the mountain air. Don't forget to bring your camera, as the landscape is worth capturing! Although it's one of the most famous hikes in Gerês, it is undoubtedly one of our favorites.
3. Levada da Víbora e Moinhos de Rei – Cabeceiras de Basto
If there's one thing we love, it's hiking in the presence of water. Whether it's a river, a stream, or in this case, a levada. So, if you also love the presence of water on your hikes, the Levada da Víbora e Moinhos de Rei, in Cabeceiras de Bastois an excellent choice. This levada takes you to a cluster of ancient mills, always accompanied by the famous water channel that gives the trail its name. Here, you can feel the strength of history and nature with every step autumn, the sound of flowing water blends with the gentle falling of leaves, creating a unique melody that accompanies the entire hike. 4. Levada de Piscaredo – Mondim de Basto
Still in the Basto region, but this time in Mondim de Basto, you can find Levada de Piscaredoa lesser-known trail that offers a peaceful walk along lush fields and streams that look straight out of a fairy tale. With autumn bringing rusty hues to the vegetation, the scenery becomes even more enchanting. This is an ideal hike for nature lovers and for those seeking a less demanding trail filled with beauty.
5. O Marão tem Sangue Azul – Amarante
For the more adventurous, the trail O Marão tem Sangue Azul,, in Amarantepromises breathtaking views. However, this route is not for the faint of heart, but the reward is worth every step. In autumn, Serra do Marão transforms into an impressive palette of colors, and the panoramic views of the region are absolutely unforgettable. Bring a good jacket, as temperatures can drop, but with the autumn colors surrounding you, you'll want to walk at a leisurely pace.
6. O Lado Português de Rio de Onor – Bragança
If you love hikes where time seems to stand still, Lado Português de Rio de Onor, in Bragançais the perfect destination. This village, one of the most emblematic in Trás-os-Montes region, yet still quite unknown, offers a trail that crosses untouched rural landscapes. In this section, take advantage of the magnificent panoramic views. In autumnthe vines transform into vibrant shades of yellow and red, creating a postcard-worthy scene. And of course, you can do as we do and take the opportunity to visit one of the many estates in the region, making this experience even more authentic and flavorful.
